US shooter Conner wins gold medal in skeet

US shooter, Katlyn Conner clinched the gold medal in the skeet competition of the HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak International Women's Shooting Championship on Friday.
Conner took the lead in the qualifying rounds with 69 skeets, before entering into the final with the Italian shooter Martina, following their draw with 72 skeets. Martina won the silver, while Slovak shooter Veronica settled for bronze.
The contests saw several surprises, foremost was Olga from Kazakhstan, who came fourth and Russian shooter Svetlana, who finished fifth. Morocco's Ebtisam Maryarhi was sixth with Italian Shera (7th), followed by her compatriot Simona in the ninth place while Alexandrea from Britain came in 12th place.
The first day of the competitions had seen a large number of audiences with Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Khalid Al Nahyan honouring the winners.
Others who took part in the medals ceremony included Sheikha Hamda bint Khalifa bin Khalid Al Nahyan; Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the championship; Saqr Nasser Al Raisi, UAE ambassador to Italy; Staff of the UAE embassy; Arif Al Awani, secretary general of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Italian MP Luciano Rossi, who is also vice president of the International Shooting Union and chairman of the Italian Shooting Federation and number of officials.
Meanwhile, Trap shooting contests will be held on Monday with three rounds.Tough competition is expected between the contenders, due to the positive participation of the Asian and European shooters.
Ray Basil of Lebanon and silver winner of Asia Shooting Championship among other champs will vie for gold.
Amid the strong start on Day 1 of the championship, the shooters sent a congratulatory message to HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, on the World Voluntary Day and World Humanitarian Day.
Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Khalid Al Nahyan extended thanks and appreciation to Sheikha Fatima, saying the Championship is a message sent out to all countries of the world that sports is the culture among all nations and lifestyle. "The championship demonstrated to the world by and large the cultural and sports legacy of our country", he said.
This championship, which bears the name of the mother of the Emirates, carries several messages to the world confirming building o the woman's capabilities and practicing her personal rights, hence reflect the insightful vision of Sheikha Fatima.
"No doubt the championship will tour the World's continents, and the participation of the largest number of shooters in it reflects the great interest UAE and its prudent leadership avowed to women, and also reflects the prominent role of the mother of the Emirates in supporting and empowering the Emirati women", he noted.
Sheikha Hamda bint Khalifa bin Khalid Al Nahyan also expressed delight over attending the third edition of the championship and held Sheikha Fatima at high esteem not only for her message to the different nations in the world at sports level, but in all domains.
