Caio Canedo Correa, aka 'Caio', is expected to arrive in the emirate here today (Friday) to finalise his permanent transfer to Al Wasl from Internacional in his native country. The Brazilian forward was on loan at Zabeel Stadium last season and played a pivotal part in the Cheetahs securing their highest league finish (sixth) in five years.
Caio ended the 2014/2015 campaign as Wasl's joint top scorer with 16 goals in the Arabian Gulf League (AGL) alongside the also-retained Fabio Lima, so it came as little surprise when club officials expressed a desire to keep hold of the 24-year-old.
His summer switch looked in considerable danger of collapsing earlier this month, with Internacional's representatives seemingly reluctant to provide a definitive answer to Wasl's initial enquiry.
However, they have now relented and ultimately sanctioned the deal, thereby paving the way for Caio's arrival today.
"I have many dreams to conquer," Caio said on his Instagram account while reflecting on "a short story, but a very happy one" at Internacional - a "huge club" that had provided "many defining moments" for him and one he was "very honoured" to represent.
"Now, I'm going back to the UAE to defend another huge club, Al Wasl, with perseverance and dedication to always do my best.
"I'm looking forward to winning titles, scoring goals and putting Al Wasl where it's supposed to be.at the top! I'm extremely happy to be part of this family again. Thank you to everybody involved on my return. Sorry to make everybody wait for so long. Love you all. I've never walked alone." One man who has opted to plough his own path though is Ederson, with Caio's fellow countryman electing to join Kashiwa Reysol in the Japanese J-League having spent last season on loan at Wasl.
It had been widely believed that Wasl were working on redeploying the all-Brazilian attacking triumvirate of Caio, Ederson and Fabio Lima this season after they'd all struck up such a good understanding last term.
Nonetheless, much like their dealings with Caio's parent club Internacional, the Cheetahs grew frustrated with Ederson's employers Atletico Paranaense and it's now thought they're pursuing other targets anyway.
A deal for Celta Vigo's Joaquin Larrivey may be back on the agenda after the Argentinian's proposed £1.4m move to English Premier League (EPL) club Norwich City collapsed last week.
That development unsurprisingly didn't exactly please Larrivey's agent either, with Daniel Dos Reis telling Fiches: "There hasn't been any problem that may have led to this, nor has there been any change in the numbers of the operation. This is a total lack of seriousness, professionalism and ethics by Norwich."
Canaries boss Alex Neil countered any criticism of his club in a post-match interview with The Pink 'Un, saying: "Yes, he came over, I met him and decided it wasn't for us. It's as simple as that. This decision, based on him not joining us, had no bearing on any other strikers we might be looking at. I just decided not to pursue it." Larrivey, 30, scored 11 goals in 35 appearances for Celta last season.
