The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have announced on Thursday that they will host the first Pakistan Super League Twenty20 tournament in Dubai and Sharjah but a top Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) officials hopes that Abu Dhabi will also get to host some of the matches.
"We would love entire country (all three major centres) to get benefit of the PSL," David East, Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), Chief Executive Officer, told Khaleej Times.
"It will be Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decision but we are still talking and would like some of the matches to be played at the Shaikh Zayed Stadium in the capital," he added.
After facing stick for ambiguous announcement on Monday, Najam Sethi, chairman of the governing council of the PSL, confirmed the venues on Thursday but could only give time frame (February4-24) for the tournament and not exact dates.
According to reliable sources, the organisers of the UAE-based Masters Cricket League (MCL) have agreed to adjust their dates to accommodate the PSL dates. The MCL will now be held from January 28 to February 13. The MCL will host their matches in all three major centres - Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
Meanwhile, the PCB has claimed that top cricketers from England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have agreed to play in the PSL.
"Some of the big names who have consented to play the PSL include Kevin Pietersen, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Luke Wright, Shakib Al Hassan, Lasith Malinga, Sunil Narine and Angelo Mathews," the PCB said in a statement carried by AP.
Earlier, the PCB dates and MCL dates were clashing and the Pakistan board had indicated that they would host their first T20 tournament in Doha, Qatar.
The PCB said it had already floated tenders for broadcasters and producers and will also open tenders for sponsors of the event in the second week of October.
"Franchise owners will be inducted between mid to end November, after which the foreign and local players will be drafted and teams constituted," said.
The PCB has put a cap of $1 million for each team to draft its players and coaches for the PSL, which carries total prize money of $1 million. "There is a pool of top coaches also from which franchise owners will be able to pick and choose," Sethi said.
