Dave Shaw, the UFC senior vice president, wants Las Vegas to take a leaf out of Abu Dhabi's book after the resounding success of the Fight Island in the Capital.
Bowled over by the superb arrangements made by the local authorities, creating an 11-km 'safe zone' for the four-part UFC Fight Island in Abu Dhabi amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Shaw said the Capital organised a 'massively successful' event and that they would try to replicate the stringent measures in Las Vegas for the next round of MMA fights next month.
"I don't believe there's any place on Earth that's as safe as where we are right now," Shaw said after the final round of the UFC Fight Island in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
"When we look back at the Fight Island experience after 5 or 10 years, we are going to say this was one of the most important moments in the UFC's history. We couldn't have done it without the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi," he added.
"This is the most progressive and ambitious endeavour we have ever undertaken. This will have a long-lasting impact not only for our brand but for the sport. This is an important catalyst that's going to help propel mixed martial arts in the region for many years to come."
