Javier Vasco Aguirre has left his position as Leganes coach a day after they were relegated from La Liga, the Spanish club said on Monday.
Leganes drew 2-2 with newly crowned champions Real Madrid on Sunday which sent them down to the second tier for the first time since 2016.
"The club thank Javier Aguirre and his coaching staff for their professionalism and treatment during these months, in which he took over the bench in a difficult situation and kept the team alive until the last game of the season, staying one goal away from achieving safety," a statement said.
Mexican Aguirre, 61, led the Madrid-based outfit to seven wins from 26 league matches after being appointed in November to replace former Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.
"When you're not able to reach an objective, it's normal that you are dispensed with. I will see what happens, if they want me to continue," Aguirre, who has coached Atletico Madrid and Espanyol, said after the weekend's loss.
