Dh30,000 prize money up for grabs at UAE Open Squash tourney

India Social and Cultural Centre Abu Dhabi (ISC) will hold the fifth edition of UAE Open Squash tournament from Sept. 15 with total prize money of Dh30,000.

The tournament is part of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour calendar and will see more than 50 international players in action.

UAE's top star Adil Maqbool is among the other local names confirmed for the tournament. Players from India, the UK, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Kuwait, Iraq, Egypt and other countries are expected to vie for the PSA points and boost their world rankings.  The tournament will have five categories - PSA, Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 and Ladies Division. The PSA Final 16 rounds will be held between Oct. 5 and 7.

ISC members hope to see some close matches that will engage the audience and bring new people to the game. As of now there are more than 500 members in the centre's squash section.

"ISC had successfully conducted the tournament in previous years with high-quality squash games. We hope this time will be even better," ISC acting president Jayachandran Nair said during a press conference on Saturday.

General secretary MA Salam said such tournaments provides a great opportunity for all squash lovers.

"We expect more than 150 players. The finals will be from Oct. 5 to 7," sports secretary Freddi Fernandes added. Union National Bank is the title sponsor and MICCO the co-sponsor of the tournament.
