Al Ain coach Ivan Leko was chuffed about his team's performance more than the result and hoped that they show the same intensity over the course of the season.
Brazilian striker Caio Canedo fired a brace, his first goals for the club since making the switch from Al Wasl, as The Boss inflicted more damage on Al Jazira in the Arabian Gulf Cup.
Al Ain won the Group A fixture 3-0 at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, for their first victory, while Al Jazira suffered their second successive defeat.
"As a coach, I look not only at the result as much as I care about the performance," Leko said after the game.
"And my team performed well from start to finish and were the best team over the course of the game. The big gains and the most important lessons learned from the game are that everyone has learned that diligence, perseverance, good movement and focus, as well as implementing tactical plans, will serve us well in the future," the Croatian added.
Canedo scored on 39 and 48 minutes, while substitute Jamal Mahroof rounded it off with the third, in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Elsewhere, at the Rashid bin Saeed Stadium, Sharjah swamped Ajman 5-0 to notch their first victory in Group B.
Ryan Mendes put The King ahead on 24 minutes and Ricardo Gomes doubled the lead on 35 minutes. Igor Coronado got the third on 55 minutes after which Gomes wrapped it up with the fourth and fifth on 61 and 75 minutes.
At the Al Nahyan Stadium, Group B toppers Al Wahda were held to a 1-1 draw by Bani Yas.
