And finally the 10-day safari has ended. Cristiano Ronaldo ensured the credentials of 'The king of the jungle' remain truly with Real Madrid. The Tarzan boy swung in his delivery past Gremio wall as the defending champions clinched their third Fifa Club World Cup at Zayed Sports City Stadium on Saturday night equalling the record of La Liga rivals Barcelona.
Ronaldo, Man-of-the-Match in the finals, scored in each of the two Real matches. He was the biggest name in the tournament and made some 40,000-plus turn up at Abu Dhabi stadium. "This is a trophy we wanted to win. Real Madrid had never won five trophies in the same year. The team did a brilliant job and we've picked up another trophy," he said during the post-match press conference.
Ronaldo is the top-scorer in the tournament with seven goals and is 'happy' to have another record to his name. "Records come naturally. I talk on the pitch. I try to give my best and make people enjoy my football. I am motivated to keep training, playing and enjoying my football that is what I love."
Asked if he was the greatest at 'Los Vikingos', Ronaldo said: "I do not need to constantly talk about myself. The numbers don't lie but speak for themselves. I feel very motivated to keep winning matches for Real."
Ronaldo revealed that he would like to end his career playing for Real Madrid. However, he added such decisions were beyond his control. "If possible yes, I'd like that but such things don't depend on me. I don't make decisions at the club. What depends on me is what I do on the pitch. I just do my job and other things don't depend on me."
Coach Zinedine Zidane is thrilled with the result. "It is a great moment for all Madridistas and everyone who loves this club. Now we are going home to relax, and then turn our attentions to El Clasico."
After winning five trophies in a season, Zidane pointed out that La Liga remains the priority. "I'm thrilled with all of them because every trophy is important. If I had to choose one, the most demanding competition of all is La Liga."
Zidane is 'happy with the balance' in the team and hoped for sextet. "We have that dream. We have won our fifth this year and we will keep on."
And for a dream of six titles he is banking on his main man Ronaldo. When asked about a new contract for Ronaldo, he said: "Of course, as soon as possible. It's crucial for us that he stays here right until the end of his career. He's here at his club and his home. Nobody is going to emulate what he's achieved and what he is still achieving. I hope he stays here until he retires."
Real Madrid faced two teams in the competition and both put up a good fight. Real even gave a guard of honour to Gremio during the award ceremony. And Ronaldo said he would like to see a similar gesture from Barcelona during 'El Clasico'. "It would be nice and I would like Barcelona to give us a guard of honour."
Even before the night ended, Real Madrid players are all up for Saturday encounter against Barcelona at Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid machine is ready for further action and success - a trait of a world-class team and gladiators.
