Hassan Khan and Praveen Kumar did the star turn again for Punjabi Legends. The bowlers seem to be hunting in pairs. They were instrumental in their team's rout of Kerala Knights a few days ago. And, on Thursday night, they combined well again to bring the high-flying Pakhtoons down to earth.
Pakhtoons won four of their five matches and were favourites against the Legends. But after being sent in to bat, Hassan (4-22) and Praveen Kumar (2-21), did well to restrict them to 102 for 6 especially when at one stage the tournament's top scorer Andre Fletcher (28) and Colin Ingram (29), leading in the absence of Shahid Afridi, looked like taking the match away.
The Legends began their chase well but began to lose their way with Sohail Khan and Liam Dawson striking twice in their first overs.
Umar Akmal held one end and came up with a crucial 41 from 21 balls which included four sixes and three fours.
When he departed Evin Lewis took over and made sure with his unbeaten 20 from 12 balls (8 fours) Punjabi Legends won the match with five wickets and seven balls remaining.
Brief scores
Pakhtoons 102 for 6 in 10 overs (Colin Ingram 29, Andre Fletcher 28; Hassan Khan 4-22, Praveen Kumar 2-21) Punjabi Legends 104 for 5 in 8.5 overs (Umar Akmal 41, Evin Lewis 20 not out; Liam Dawson 2-4, Sohail Khan 2-22). Man of the match: Hassan Khan.
