Science of environmental harmony and well-being

A very basic reasoning behind Feng Shui, is cultivating harmony with your environment. Feng shui believes that every object and person has an energy - known as chi or qi, and properly organising your surroundings can allow your energy to flow more effectively.

Feng Shui simply means "wind and water" and all the eight directions have different elements associated with them. By managing the flow of your chi effectively, we can live a calmer, happier and a productive life. Simply put, Feng Shui is an art of arrangement and promotes a positive way of life.

The food reacts with the oxygen that we inhale to form carbon dioxide and water. When these two compounds release the energy, we use that to metabolise and power our bodies. This is a useful example of how energy in one form is changed and transferred to create something else. We human beings are composed of trillions of cells that constantly respond and interact with the changes in our local environment. The same thing happens to us within our local environment. We constantly interact with our environment and are impacted by our surroundings, either positively or negatively. Feng Shui enables us to analyse, the individuals and its environmental energy, with the help of five elements - Earth, Fire Water, Metal and Wood and allows us to balance it with colour, shape, sound, natural materials, and of course water.

The end goal is always to enhance the space with things that blend in with the people living or working there, by using items within our reach and limit.

Enhance your surroundings

In today's time, health equates wealth, here are some Feng Shui tips to balance the health at your house:

Good Feng shui in the East sector of your house determines good health for the whole family. East is represented by the element wood, therefore, placement of a healthy green plant such as odd number of bamboo sticks in glass vase, enhances good health energy.

Good quality air is good Feng shui, therefore, allow your home to receive as much natural light as possible. We all like to have a glancing window with greenery, that is because the green provides a rejuvenating effect that allows us to regain productivity and concentration.

Feng shui encourages gap under the bed, as placement of anything under the bed hinders the energy to circulate while you have a good night's sleep.

Mirrors can either create a sense of spaciousness or can create great disharmony. Never place a mirror reflecting each other, it is considered as challenging Feng shui. This kind of a placement creates constant bouncing of energy and can make a very chaotic movement. Also, make sure mirrors aren't placed where they'll reflect your bed, a toilet door, a fireplace or messy areas.

Feng shui believes that Yin and Yang plays a pivotal role in creating a balanced Feng shui design. Yin is more feminine while yang is more masculine. While they are opposite to each other, they also mutually dependent on each other's existence. The imbalance occurs when Yin and Yang are in a constant flux. Excessive red and fire shades bring in Yang energy and creates unnecessary fights and excessive blue and black colours at home generates Dark Yin, resulting in low and weak energy, it may even evoke fear and anxiety. When the Yin and Yang is balanced, it creates a harmonious relationship with our environment and thus a harmonised life.
