In a frightening video, a man escaped unhurt when an iPhone battery exploded in his face in an electronics store in China.
According to reports in Newsweek, the man was checking out a replacement battery for his phone and in a bid to test its authenticity, he bit the battery which caused it to explode. The 10-second video which was captured by the store's CCTV, shows the man and several other buyers run to safety after the sudden explosion which took place on Friday.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident despite the proximity of the explosion. When contacted, Apple ignored Newsweek's request for a comment on the incident that could have been fatal.
This is not the first time iPhone batteries have malfunctioned. Recently, numerous complaints of poor batteries performance have surfaced. In October, several incidents of iPhone 8 Plus batteries overheating and swelling out of their cases were reported in China, Japan and Taiwan.
Besides, only two weeks ago an iPhone battery exploded in an Apple store in Zurich, Switzerland, wherein one worker sustained minor burn injuries while 50 workers and customers were forced to leave the store.
Speculations ran rife that Apple was deliberately stifling the performance of older devices. The news was confirmed by iPhone giant itself which claimed that it was necessary in order to prolong the battery life and make the device safer.
"We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down," Apple said in a statement earlier and offered to lower the cost of replacing an iPhone battery from $79 to $29.
