Kate Hill, who was suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome, was unable to ovulate, thus unable to conceive.
After treatment, when she tried to conceive, she fell pregnant, not once but twice.
The medical phenomenon is so rare that there are only 10 documented cases so far.
The conception is called superfetation, which essentially means she fell pregnant while already pregnant. The second baby was conceived 10 days after the first one.
"Superfetation is extremely rare. I had fallen pregnant and my body had spontaneously released another egg giving the embryos different gestational ages," Hill said.
"What makes this case even more rare, is that my husband and I only tried once."
The girls, Charlotte and Olivia, were born together two days before their scheduled caesarean.
