The staff of a leisure centre near Bristol, south-west England, turned up for work ahead of a busy weekend only to find the swimming pool water had mysteriously disappeared.
Parish Wharf in Portishead near Bristol had a bizarre incident on Saturday morning wherein an empty tiled hole was left of a huge swimming pool, draining half a million litres away overnight.
However, it was later revealed by engineers that 'a fault with the waste valve' was responsible for water disappearing down the hole. Post the incident, the pool has been closed and swimmers were turned away as the pool would take days to refill, reported the Mirror.
A spokesperson for the Parish Wharf leisure centre, which is run by Places for People for North Somerset Council, told the Bristol Post the pool had to close 'due to a technical issue in the plant room where a fault with the waste valve resulted in the main pool being drained of water overnight'.
They added, "We are working hard to introduce fresh water into the pool as soon as practicable within industry guidelines. We are hopeful of having the main pool open early next week, allowing time for the water to be heated and treated in line with regulations."
However, although the fault has been determined, staff are baffled by the disappearance of water from a massive swimming pool so quickly.
