In a clever strategy to help find loopholes in security, a clothes shop came up with a bizarre idea to invite thieves to steal from the store. The job offer includes pay of £50 (Dh234) an hour who can manage to steal items from the shop.
Not only this, the thief who is successful in stealing will be allowed to keep three of the things stolen. The clothes owner, who asked to remain anonymous, said she wanted to find out where the store needed to tighten security and how staff can work better to prevent theft, as per Mirror.co.uk report.
The 'stealing job' will require the eligible candidate to visit the shop on a number of days and times over several weeks. The 'thieves' will then have to produce a report of how they managed to steal items from the store.
The bizarre job request was posted on Bark.com. The shop owner wrote describing the job: 'I'm looking for a professional to help highlight security weaknesses in my store, by deliberately stealing from it'. She further wrote: 'I've been a business owner since I opened my retail shop in 2013, and have experienced extensive theft every year in the run-up to Christmas for the last five years'.
Adding that where she should install CCTVs and whether her staff interacted with the thief, she wrote: 'Like clockwork, from the start of November, the shop gets busier and it becomes harder to monitor everyone who comes through the door. Thieves swipe items from our shelves and I'm losing thousands of pounds every year and, as a small business owner, I can't afford to let this slide'.
Agreeing that the job request is odd, she wrote: 'It's an odd request, but I'm determined to find weaknesses I may not have spotted before. If you can help or think you can help me improve the security of my store, please let me know'.
The job specifies that candidates should have some experience in a security profession without any criminal record. Kai Feller, co-founder of Bark.com, said: "While we do have a variety of security professionals already on our site, professional robbery isn't a service we actively offer. However, we hope that someone with the right skills and know-how is willing to help this store owner better secure her shop."
