Masafi valley was the most flooded, followed by Asafni and Shawkah valleys, according to residents.
Saeed Al Qaydi, an executive officer in Shawkah area, said it started raining at 3.30pm and went on until 4.30pm on Sunday.
"The rainshower covered an extensive area, from Shawkah to Wadi Barraq, including all nearby mountains. Temperature and humidity also dropped," Al Qaydi said.
Resident Mohammed Othman said the moderate-to-heavy rain was accompanied by lightning, thunder, and strong dusty winds.

On Monday, visibility remained low due to the wind-blown sand and dust, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
The weather is expected to be fair to partly cloudy on Tuesday, said a weatherman at the NCM.
The RAK Police have urged motorists to be extra careful. "Drivers need to reduce speed, observe safe distance from other vehicles, and avoid the valleys and mountainous areas due to the unstable weather conditions."
Ahmed Hamad Al Shehi, an adviser for the department of public works, said they have deployed their tankers and pumps to clear roads of any accumulated water.
