Sharjah now has 19 million hectares of its land under green cover after completing 70 major projects last year.

Sharjah Municipality has also cultivated more than 5000.000 flower plants in keeping with the motto of the emirate: “Smile, you are in Sharjah,”

Thabet Al-Tarifi Director-General of Sharjah Municipality said some of the main projects included enhancing the irrigation system to supply water to the green areas, besides plantation of flower plants and palm trees across the emirate.

Eng. Hassan Al-Tefaq, Assistant Director-General of the Agriculture and Environment Sector, said the municipality has decorated various streets and squares with different types of plants and flowers sourced from two of its nurseries - Al-Falah Nursery and Green Belt Nursery. These nurseries house more than 1000 species of trees, plants, shrubs, climbers, flowers, and more than 25 types of fruits. The nurseries produce nearly half a million seedlings annually.

He explained that agriculture is one of the priorities of municipal work and the fundamental goal within the municipality’s strategic plan to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the emirate.
