In case of ambulances, the paramedics are sent out in full protective gear.

Since medical professionals handling novel coronavirus (nCoV) patients are also at risk of contracting the disease, precautionary protocols have been taken to safeguard their health.

Dr Shanila Laiju, CEO of Medcare Hospital and Medcare Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital, said: "We have trained our clinical staff on all the precautionary measures. Appropriate Level 4 PPE recommended by authorities is provided to the staff. Hand hygiene agents are available across all locations in the hospital."

At Emirates Hospital in Jumeirah, the number of staff members and medical professionals that would handle nCoV cases have been limited, said Rochelle Petersen, director of nursing at the facility.

"They are provided with goggles, N95 masks, disposable gowns, disposable gloves, and other protective gear.

"In case of ambulances, the paramedics are sent out in full protective gear and once patients are transferred to the hospital, terminal cleaning of the ambulance is also done," she said.
