Motorists experienced significant delays reported in parts of Dubai during the rush hour commute on Sunday morning.

The Abu Dhabi traffic's Twitter handle has reported multiple accidents that caused congestion and tailbacks.
In the capital, a bus  broken down on the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street on before Mohammed bin Khalifa Street outbound, Abu Dhabi traffic police tweeted. It was cleared later.

At 7:30am, another accident slowed commuters on Sheikh Zayed Road Bridge inbound.
 
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Police has announced a temporary closure of roads in the capital for emergency maintenance work. According to a statement issued on social media, the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi announced the traffic will be diverted for those driving from Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Road (formerly Al Morour) towards Pepsi intersection; and those driving from Arabian Gulf Street towards the same intersection on Raban Street which is located between Sheikh Rashid bin Seed (Pepsi intersection) and  Arabian Gulf Street opposite to the Embassies Area.

According to Google Maps data, huge tailbacks were observed on Sheikh Zayed Road towards Dubai from Sharjah. No major traffic incidents have been reported in Dubai.

In Sharjah, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, MoID, has confirmed that it will begin the traffic diversion work on Mleiha Road in the area of Al Suyoh area from Sunday October 22, 2017, to become three lanes towards Mleiha and two lanes towards Sharjah.
The Dh174 million project is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2018, is part of the initiatives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Motorists are advised to take alternate routes wherever possible.
