You can now enjoy unlimited bus rides in UAE for Dh225 a month.
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) this week launched the special promo card, called 'Mowasalat Card, for its passengers. 'Mowasalat' is an Arabic word that means 'transport'.
"A passenger only needs to pay Dh225 per month, then he or she can avail of an unlimited number of bus rides within Sharjah city," SRTA sources told Khaleej Times.
They clarified that the Mowasalat Card is not valid for intercity bus routes. An initial fee of Dh5 must also be paid for the card. Launched as part of the SRTA's Ramadan and summer promotion and the authority's efforts to provide residents with smarter transportation solutions, the Mowasalat Card allows regular commuters to save some extra cash every month.
Ashraf Saeed, a regular bus passenger, told Khaleej Times that they have long been waiting for such a transport card.
"I take the bus twice a day - to go to work and come back home - and each trip costs me Dh8," he said.
"This means I spend Dh416 for bus rides every month, excluding four off days. With the new card, I will be saving about Dh191."
To get a Mowasalat Card, one may approach the bus driver. "Our passengers can pay for their tickets electronically on Mowasalat buses, saving time, money and effort," the SRTA said.
They can also check the validity of their cards through the special reader on the bus.
Earlier, the SRTA launched the pre-paid 'Sayer Card' for bus trips around the emirate.
"Those with Sayer cards pay less than those who pay with cash," the SRTA said.
According to a revised tariff scheme that took effect in December 2018, passengers on Sharjah city bus routes have to pay Dh8 for a ticket, instead of Dh7. And those who have Sayer cards pay Dh6, instead of Dh5.50.
For any feedback, inquiries and complaints, residents may call the SRTA call centre at 600525252.
