New marine services introduced on the Dubai Creek will shorten the journey time for commuters from 30 minutes to 11 (about 63 per cent), the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced. Two new lines have been introduced and the number of abras increased, the authority said on Monday.
One of the new routes connects Al Sabkha (Deira) and Al Fahidi (Bur Dubai), "as the two areas have several service and tourist attractions such as Al Fahidi Museum, Textiles and Spices Souqs and Baniyas Square," a top RTA official said.

Mohammed Abubaker Al Hashimi, director of marine transport, said: "The second line links Al Sabkha and Al Ghubaiba Stations to enhance the integration of Al Ghubaiba Station.
"Abras in service have been increased from four to seven to serve the new lines, and the service timing has been geared to the needs and nature of activities in the area. The service frequency of the line linking Al Seef and Baniyas Stations has been increased to reduce the waiting time of passengers."
The restructuring of the services will increase the number of services by 15 per cent. The service improvement rate will hit 61 per cent and boost ridership by 39 per cent, the RTA added.
