The Ajman Public Transportation Authority (Apta) has asked cab and bus drivers to wear masks and sterilise vehicles every day, as part of precautionary measures against Covid-19.
Drivers have also been undergoing weekly check-ups and attending awareness workshops on health and hygiene, the authority said.
Omar Lootah, director of operations at Apta, said 400 taxis were sterilised this week. All vehicles, including limousines, are thoroughly cleaned from the exteriors to the interiors, using solutions proven to kill germs and viruses.
A circular has been issued to franchise taxi company owners, pointing out the need to follow the same precautionary steps, Lootah confirmed on Tuesday.
"These preventive measures contribute to protecting both drivers and passengers from exposure to diseases," he said.
