A Syrian doctoral student named Zaina Abdelkarim Ahmed has been honoured for rescuing an elderly woman, aged 71, and her nine-year-old grandson, after a real estate office evicted them out of their flat.
They family was evicted as they were not paying the rent and were left out on the streets.
The student helped them by renting a hotel room for them and paying for it, before she contacted the competent authorities to solve their problem as well as the issue of the child's mother, who was arrested in a finance-related case.

Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al-Marri, the Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, honored the young Syrian student for her humanitarian gesture, including contacting the relevant authorities to helping them resolve their problems.

The Force applauded her gesture urging that such humanitarian duty falls on all residents of UAE, while they enjoy a secure and stable life. The chief also praised the concerned official who supported the family and facilitated the process of her return home with her mother.

Commenting on the case, the young student said that she sympathised with the family's situation after she met Ahmed and his grandmother on the street. She put them up in a hotel for ten days, providing them with food and clothing at her own expense, while she worked with the authorities to resolve their issues.

The Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with the DNRD and Ajman Police, eased the family's suffering by reuniting the child with his mother and grandmother. The DNRD in Dubai exempted the mother and her child from fines of eight years, as well as waiving off visa-related fines on the grandmother for violating residency visa laws for 4 years.
