Man charged for assaulting, trying to steal woman's gold necklace

Sharjah - The accused denied the charges and said the accusations were false.

An Asian man was charged by the Sharjah Criminal Court for assaulting a woman while trying to steal her gold necklace as she walked on a road in the industrial zone at 11pm. 
The victim, who appeared in the court, said the sudden attack by the man took her unawares. The man grabbed at her necklace and tried to snatch it away, she told the court. He managed to run away with a part of the necklace as the woman - who sustained minor bruises - raised alarm and started screaming. Even as the accused was making the escape bid, his mobile phone fell on the way, said the woman.   
The police nabbed the thief later and referred him to the public prosecution following his confession.
The court confronted the man with the charges of assault and theft after reading out the prosecution report.
The accused denied the charges and said the accusations were false. He retracted from his confessions made during police and prosecution interrogation.
The court adjourned the trial.
