The court documents show that the Ghana man, on a visit visa, had given the money to the driver, a 35-year-old Pakistani, after he promised to help him get a job of a security guard.
"I went to see him outside his flat around 6am. But he attacked me with a scalpel. He cut me all over. He was angry because I was pushing him to return Dh14,500 I had paid him to help me get a job," the victim told the prosecutor.
The victim said that after collecting the money from him, the defendant started ignoring him and did not honour his promise.
The victim added that one of his African friends had introduced him to the accused as someone who could search a job for him in any company that offers security and protection services.
"I did not attack or assault the defendant but I merely tried to protect myself," he said during investigation.
"I did not fully recover from the wounds. I still feel pain," the victim said.
The victim's countrywoman testified that she saw him lying down in the third floor that morning, while the accused was over him. "It was just the two of them and the victim was bleeding and holding the defendant's hand back as the latter was trying to cut him with a sharp tool. I ran downstairs but could not find anybody to help us. I then called the police," the woman, who is the victim's friend, said.
"My friend told me he wanted to go there early in the morning as it would be the right time to find him before he went out. But he got injured in his face, left arm, hand and fingers."
The forensic report concluded that the victim was disfigured and left with face scars.
According to the prosecution charge sheet, the incident happened on June 18 and was reported to Al Muraqqabat police station.
The driver has been charged with assault resulting in a person's deformity. He admitted assaulting the man during investigation.
