Two men in Dubai were handed a three-month jail term, followed by deportation, and fined Dh20,000 for illegal possession of gas cylinders.
The 30-year-old Pakistani vendor and a 47-year-old driver, had been caught attempting to sell 138 gas cylinders bearing counterfeit labels of a registered gas company.
On May 24, 2017, they were preparing to transport the flammable gas in an unauthorised vehicle.
The gas company's Emirati inspector was in Ras Al Khor Industrial Area when he saw the duo: "Around 10:30 am, whilst checking on our warehouse distributors for compliance infractions, I spotted a pick-up and another vehicle parked in the warehouse yard."
"The other vehicle had a freezer but it was also readying to transport gas cylinders."
Suspicious, the inspector alerted the police. After investigating the vehicles, they found gas cylinders of of 22 and 44kg capacities.
