A four-member gang, involved in stealing furniture, appeared at the Dubai Court of First Instance on February 12, facing theft charges.
Public prosecution records show a Nepali accommodation supervisor, two security guards (Indian and Nepali) and a Bangladeshi worker, carried out the robbery. It included 134 tables, 261 chairs, 172 cloth dryers, 1,500 two-level beds, 1,500 lockers, 1,500 mattresses and TV sets from the labour accommodation of the contracting firm for which they worked.
They denied the charge in court.
The incident, which took place on June 27, last year, and was captured on cameras by other workers, was reported to Jebel Ali police station.
An Egyptian PRO said that the plaintiff had rented a labour accommodation for its workers in the Industrial City in Dubai.
"The administration discovered that furniture was missing from the premises. They conducted a probe and labourers were questioned. The robbery was blamed on the four men on trial. The defendants sold the stolen furniture after falsely claiming they were authorised by their workplace."
Some of the workers filmed the accused while they were moving the furniture and loading them on vehicles, the PRO added.
During the internal probe, the accused admitted to the robbery charge to the company's administration.
When interrogated by the prosecution investigators, the defendants confessed they sold the stolen furniture as scrap parts.
The sale receipts and the recorded footage were used as prosecution evidence.
The four accused will be sentenced on February 28.
