A GCC national stood trial in the Fujairah Criminal Court on charges of abusing drugs.
The case unfolded when the suspect was caught by the Fujairah Police over a traffic violation, and his car was impounded.
Some time later, the police found a syringe containing a narcotic drug on the car's back seat. The young man was then arrested for abusing drugs.
He was referred to the Fujairah prosecution and then to the criminal court, which found him guilty and sentenced him to two years in jail.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, the man challenged the verdict at the Fujairah Criminal Court of Appeal.
The defence lawyer told the court that her client was originally involved in a traffic case that was ruled eight months ago.
He was arrested on a drug abuse case after a syringe with a drug was found in his car.
"Does it sound logical to charge my client with abusing drugs eight months after the end of the initial traffic case," she asked the jury.
The impounded car was in police custody, and he was not present during its inspection, she pointed out.
"The indictment must be based on investigations at the time of the initial traffic case not eight months later," she underlined.
The court ordered adjournment of the case to a later time this month to issue its verdict.
