A man has been charged at the Sharjah Criminal Court with assaulting a security guard of a building that housed female employees. He was accused of being under the influence of alcohol while beating up the victim.
The Filipino victim told the court that the incident took place in October when he was performing his night duty and keeping vigil on a residence where women employees stayed in Sharjah's Al Musla area.
He said he saw the suspect roaming around in the area and trying to peep into the women's residence. The guard told him to get away from the place and also informed the manager. The victim added that after some time, he saw a group of people charging towards him. The accused was in the group, the guard pointed out. They snatched his mobile phone away, and rained blows on him, while trying to force their way into the building, the victim said.
The guard called for help. His colleagues, who heard his screams, immediately rushed to the spot and the group fled the scene. However, they managed to catch hold of the accused.
He was arrested by Sharjah police officials, and referred to the public prosecution.
During the court hearing, the accused confessed to the crime and said he was drunk at the time of the incident and was not aware and couldn't recall his actions.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till January 17.
