An assistant inspector of a ministry has stood trial at a Dubai court accused of forgery and abuse of post. The inspector was assigned with inspecting labour accommodations and checking whether they met the required conditions and standards.
According to public prosecution records, the 40-year-old Emirati inspector forged e-forms which stated that five contracting companies and an electrical and mechanical works enterprise - that had all applied for an increase in their labour quotas - met the conditions set by the ministry.
Aside from the e-forgery, he is also charged at the Court of First Instance of abusing his post, misusing his privilege and gaining unlawful access into the ministry's e-system even though he was on leave then.
He falsely certified online that the said establishments met the prerequisites set by the ministry.
After conducting an inspection visit, an assistant inspector is required to draw up reports with the date of inspection, capacity of rooms and hygiene of the place. He should note whether there is any overcrowding in rooms and document his inspections along with his reports online.
In the present case, he did not even conduct the visit. Instead, he forged official e-documents (labour accommodation inspection forms and standard certificates for the accommodations). What he certified online was bogus information, prosecution records showed.
The alleged wrongdoings took place on March 25, 2016. A case was registered in January this year at Al Qusais police station.
The trial will continue on March 19.
