A man, who was convicted of trafficking psychotropic substances and promoting drugs online, will spend the rest of his life in jail.
The Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi has upheld earlier rulings by lower courts that handed the life in jail sentence to the Asian man after he was found guilty of dealing drugs in the UAE.
Official court documents stated that the man was caught possessing a huge quantity of psychotropic drugs in one of the emirates.
Investigations revealed that he was also promoting the drugs online and targeting many young customers. He would post pictures of the narcotic drugs online and woo the customers. Using his network, the man then directed the clients to the places where they could get their drugs after making the payment.
Prosecutors had charged him with possessing, trafficking and promoting drugs in the country. Officers also asked the court to give the defendant the maximum penalty as per the law.
The criminal court of first instance and the appeal court sentenced the Asian to life in prison and fined him Dh50,000.
The man went to UAE's top court which rejected his appeal and maintained the earlier rulings.
