A three-member gang of Asian men, who decamped with a metal safe containing multiple currencies amounting to Dh660,000 from an apartment, was arrested by the Sharjah Police within 24 hours of the crime.

An investor in scrap trade lodged a police complaint stating that after he returned from work at noon, he was shocked to find the metal safe stolen from his house located in one of the industrial areas of Sharjah.
A police team swung into action and collected evidence from the site. The cops suspected that the robbery was carried out by someone who knew the victim. They combed the places where scrap trade is carried out.
The police were able to nab the first suspect after setting up a trap and laying an ambush. The suspect led the team to two of his accomplices and all three confessed to committing the crime, revealed Brigadier Ibrahim Musabeh Al Ajil, director of the criminal investigation department (CID) at Sharjah Police. The trio said they decamped with the safe and carried it to another location where they dismantled it and shared the money among themselves.
The accused were referred to the public prosecution for further legal action. The police returned the recovered money to the investor.

Al Ajill said that the promptness of the victim to lodge the complaint helped in quickly transferring the case to CID officers, who immediately carried out search and investigation resulting in the arrest of the criminals in a short time.

The police made huge efforts to nab the suspects before they could spend the stolen money, he added. "The experience of the detectives helped in cracking the case even though the perpetrators had left no proof to trace them."

Al Ajill pointed out that the complainant made a mistake by keeping large amounts of money in his house and so he became a soft target.
He called on the people to take care of their valuables - such as cash and jewellery - and keep them in banks to avoid loss or theft.
