The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced two Asians to 10 years in jail and imposed Dh200,000 fine for importing more than 1million Tramadol pills from an Asian country, Al Bayan reported.
The duo used a fake landing bill of generic medicines to import the shipment and send it to one of the accused's native country through Dubai.
Investigations showed that the shipment included 151 packages of Tramadol pills and other generic medicines. Cargo Village officers suspected that the shipment had illegal material, after the accused, who ordered it, didn't come to receive the shipment in time. The officers seized the consignment, after monitoring it for four days.
A day after it was seized, the accused - aged 46 and 29 - arrived to finish the procedures of shipping the package to the other country. When the officers inspected the shipment, they found a huge quantity of Tramadol pills. The two accused were immediately arrested and referred to the public prosecution.
