An African tourist, 51, was arrested in Dubai after the authorities discovered that he was attempting to smuggle 1.17 kilograms (kg) of contraband narcotics to the emirate through the Dubai International Airport (DXB).
The documents available with the public prosecution revealed that the incident had occurred on November 27, 2020, when the DXB authorities suspected that the accused’s luggage contained illicit substances.
The authorities found five plastic bags and each of them contained capsules. The capsules were filled with a white component, which the forensics department found to be cocaine, a banned drug.
Altogether, there were 77 capsules and weighed 1.17kg.
Dubai Police referred the accused to public prosecution, who submitted the case to the criminal court.
The court will hear the case on April 6.
