A four-member gang of Africans, who robbed a jewellery shop after holding its staff at knife-point, has been arrested by the Ajman Police.
The police received a complaint that some men had carried out a heist at a jewellery shop while intimidating the owner and staff with knives, said Lt Col Ahmed Saeed Al Nuiami, director of CID at Ajman Police.
A team of CID officers was immediately set up. During interrogation, the shop's owner told the cops that four Africans barged in, threatened him, stole jewellery and fled the spot.
The police team combed the area but couldn't find the gang members.
The search to track down the culprits was stepped up.
As the probe intensified, it was found that the suspects were holing up in an old, abandoned house in a populated area in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
The Ajman Police team, in coordination with their Ras Al Khaimah counterparts, raided the house and nabbed all the culprits.
The gang members confessed to their crime and were referred to the public prosecution.
Lt Col Al Nuaimi commended the efficiency and experience of CID officers who helped in arresting the defendants in a very short time. He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the RAK Police for their cooperation.
The CID director urged the public not to hesitate in reporting any suspicious person trying to commit any crime.
The Ajman Police have zero tolerance against criminals who make a bid to endanger the security of the country and safety of citizens, he pointed out.
