Major-General Jassim Mohammed Al Marzouki from the civil defence at the Ministry of Interior, urged the public to be cautious when it comes to risks that arise from fluctuations in exceptional weather.
He said residents must be careful while visiting valleys during this season due to unexpected rains and urged the public to be aware of the risks of floods and natural drifts.
Major Al Mazrouki noted that it's vital to monitor the weather before making a road trip. Residents are advised to stay clear of valleys and channels of natural waters, he added.
For safety reasons, one should not swim in flooded areas or relax in valleys during rainfall. The use of radio or mobile phones in exposed areas can also be dangerous, he said.
The public are thus advised to follow up on social networking sites, such as Instagram and Twitter, the Ministry of Interior's website, which often broadcasts instant messages for public awareness, as well as weather bulletins from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology.- jasmine@khaleejtmes.com
