'Smart' radars that monitor noise levels of vehicles have helped the Sharjah Police bring calm to neighbourhoods across the emirate. The radars have helped keep modified vehicles off the streets.
Previously, Lt.-Col. Alai had said that the device detects noise levels through a "precise video and audio technology" while determining the percentage of sound issued from vehicles. It operates with solar technology and sends a signal alarm to the operations room if more than one vehicle is causing noise on the same road. The device also contains security surveillance cameras.
Al Naqbi noted that any vehicle that makes a noise exceeding 95 decibels will be penalised with a Dh2,000 fine and 12 black points. The vehicle may also be seized for six months.
