A 42-year-old Arab woman died and her 16-month-old daughter is fighting for her life as a speeding car ran over them in Sharjah on Monday. With her baby in the stroller, the mother was crossing a road in Al Khan when they were run over. She had gone for a walk after taking her other children to the school bus.
The police were notified about the accident around at 8am. A team of police patrols and paramedics dispatched to the site rushed the woman and her daughter to Al Qasimi Hospital. The woman succumbed to her injuries, while the baby is in a critical condition in the intensive care unit of the hospital.
According to the police, the woman's husband is in a state of shock. The couple have three other children.
Colonel Abdul Latif Al Gharubati, head of Al Buhaira Comprehensive Police Station, said the preliminary investigation revealed that speeding and inattentive driving caused the crash. Additionally, the woman was crossing from a non-designated area.
The police have detained the driver and are questioning him.
