Large quantity of white weapons seized in Sharjah

Sharjah - The municipality has carried out a raid as part of its concerns about the spread of the white weapons among teenagers.

A large quantity of white weapons have been seized from a commercial outlet during a raid by the Sharjah Municipality.
Authorities said the outlet sold weapons including knives, swords, electric sticks and others to teenagers.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Thabit Al Turaiffi, director-general of the Sharjah Municipality, said the raid was conducted after the authorities verified the information that the store sold weapons without a licence.
A large number of weapons were seized and legal action was taken against the shopkeeper. The municipality has carried out this action as part of its concerns about the spread of the white weapons among teenagers who involve in fights and affect stability, safety, and security of the society.
"Due to the complaints received, a surprise inspection was carried out to control white weapons prohibited by the law - long swords, sharp knives, sticks, and other weapons - that pose a threat to society," he said.
"If we allow such kinds of weapons in the hands of adolescents, it would lead to crimes. Teenagers and young men are being involved in a number of group fights, especially in the last two years. The municipality, in coordination with the police, wouldn't tolerate anyone who tampers with the security of the community and exploit children to promote their weapon businesses," Al Turaiffi added.
The Sharjah Municipality will continue its inspection to curb any kind of negative phenomenon that will distort the public scene and pose a danger to the members of society. He warned the shop owners not to buy or use these weapons and to report any such violations. Community members are always welcome to cooperate with the municipality by calling its hotline 993.
A top official at the Sharjah Police said that the police in continuous coordination with the Sharjah Municipality to curb illegal practices that affect the society. The police have received many cases of group fighting involving children from 14 to 26 years old who confessed that they bought the weapons from these shops.
