Motorists here may now breathe a sigh of relief as the new ring road was opened to public on Wednesday morning.
Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, minister of infrastructure development, inaugurated the 30km-long arterial road, which connects the north and south parts of the emirate.
The Dh410 million worth road, surrounding the urban region of the RAK City and planned ones for the coming 20 years, starts from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and ends at RAK-Shaam road that leads to Musandam in the Sultanate of Oman, Al Nuaimi said.
"The speed limit has been set at 140kmph and the road can accommodate up to 60,000 vehicles in every direction per day."
He added that the ministry will also build a number of bridges that are expected to be completed in the last quarter of this year.

Dr Nuaimi said the six-lane road; three in each direction, has been equipped with several bypasses and intersections, including side intersections on both directions for smoothly receiving and distributing traffic flow to and from the RAK City districts.
The new road connects the economic zones in the northern and southern regions of the country. "The Saqr port and many construction factories, spanning ceramics and cement are built on the RAK-Shaam road."
The RAK ring road will cut traffic flow downtown by 30 per cent, the minister said. "Having diverted heavy trucks from downtown to the ring road will reduce trip time at the city main intersections by 40 per cent."
Ali Saeed Al Rayhi, an Emirati national, said the RAK ring road is additional advantage to the UAE infrastructure achievements.
"It will ease people's suffering, save time, money and effort, and curb traffic accidents."
Salem Saeed Haluka, an Emirati national, extended his sincere appreciation to the UAE prudent leadership for their commitment to the country. "Our rulers spare no effort to ease our suffering and bring us happiness. It will significantly save time."
Ali Rashid, an Emirati national, said the new road will boost the roads network in the country. "It is really an honour for the country to top the entire world in terms of road quality for four straight years."
