A 21-year-old Emirati youth succumbed to injuries he received in a road accident on the Daqdaqa-Airport Road in Ras Al Khaimah.
The man lost control over his car and rammed it into a tree and lamp post before the vehicle turned over several times, Major Salem Mohamed Burqiba, acting head of the traffic and patrols section with RAK police, said on Tuesday.
On being informed about the accident, the central operations room of the RAK Police dispatched traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site in record time.
"We were alerted about the accident late on Monday around 12 midnight." Enactment of the accident revealed it was speeding and lack of attention that caused the accident, he added.
"The paramedics tried hard to resuscitate the victim who received serious injuries and bled excessively. He couldn't make it and died, while the car was totally damaged," he said.
His body was shifted to the morgue of a hospital for burial by relatives. The accident file was referred to the departments concerned for legal procedures.
Major Burqiba said all drivers need to observe traffic rules and regulations to ensure road users' safety and theirs as well. "Drivers should be more attentive on the road, observe speed limits, and avoid driving while exhausted."
