Major Rashid Jasim, the Head of the Criminal Research Section of Ajman Police Department, said that the police centre had received a complaint on July 10 in the early hours of the morning from people regarding a dead body that was found lying behind a building located in the Al Karama district.

A team of qualified police officers immediately went to the crime scene and found the body. The forensic pathologist was called and an examination of the body confirmed that a criminal act had been committed. However, it was not immediately known who the victim was since there was no information available on hand. Neither did they, at the moment of investigation, know who could have committed the dastardly act.

The police swung into action and formed a team, divided into three groups, to investigate the crime. Clues emerged and when put together the police found that Mohammed Darweesh, 38, who had earlier police records in various cases like assault and for being an alcoholic, was involved in the crime.

The family of the victim was then immediately contacted and they informed the police that the accused had picked up a fight with the victim - his brother, aged 33, - while they were both drunk. The victim who left the house was later followed by his brother. The accused later returned home after awhile, but without his brother. The brother was later found dead in an isolated area by people in the neighbourhood.

The suspect was arrested by the police at his relative's house in Sharjah while he was receiving friends who had come offer their condolence on the unfortunate death of his brother.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that while they were both drunk he had bashed his brother to death after the victim had verbally abused him.

The police also said that the two brothers who used to quarrel frequently were jobless and were facing financial problems.

The victim leaves behind children who need to be looked after and the accused has a family who are struggling to make ends meet due to the alcoholic addiction of the two brothers.
