The construction of the Abu Dhabi Indian School (ADIS) branch is planned to start immediately after the allotment of land is finalised and it has gone through the tender process, Dr B. R. Shetty, CEO of New Medical Centre Healthcare and chairman of the ADIS, said.
The new 44,000-square metre school in Al Wathba, about 45 kilometres off Abu Dhabi city, is expected to help meet the demand for schools offering the CBSE curriculum.
He said that current request for admissions at the ADIS in town are too many. “We can’t take anything extra... (though) we try to accommodate.”
According to him, the number of students per class at the Indian school has been increased to 33 from the previous 30, following the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) approval.
In February, the ADIS auditorium, which has the capacity to accommodate 2,500 people, was filled with parents hoping for a lucky draw for one of the 75 seats that opened-up.
Dr Shetty said because of the demand for seats he had also requested for a plot from Adec to extend the 36,000-square metre Bright Riders School, where he is the chairman, at the Mohammed bin Zayed City. However, his initial request has been denied.
Bright Riders has initially opened-up seats from Kindergarten to Grade 4 and all seats were “already full” months ahead of its opening.
