Revamped Dubai fertility centre to open by 2020

The new centre will be located on the grounds of the Latifa Hospital for Women and Children.

Offering new services, a new and expanded Dubai Gynaecology and Fertility Centre building will be opened by mid-2020. The centre, which was inaugurated in 1991, receives around 2,300 to 2,600 couples annually and has a pregnancy success rate of 64 per cent in 2018.
The new centre, which will be located on the grounds of  the Latifa Hospital for Women and Children, will introduce new services such as ovarian tissue freezing, oocyte in vitro maturation, micro testicular epididymal sperm exploration and fertility-related research activities.
The centre will also include two highly specialised surgery rooms for in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures such as oocyte retrieval and embryo transfers as well as a specialised embryology lab (to provide freezing services, genetic services, etc) and a research lab that supports fertility related studies will also part of the new structure.
The centre will have luxurious rooms for short stay that are equipped with modern technology to ensure customers' privacy.
Hana Tahwara, director of the centre, said that as at November 2017, as many as 4,618 babies have been born as an outcome of the treatment provided by the centre.
"Relocating to the new building will allow the centre to expand its scope of services to provide new treatments that were not provided before," she said.
She added that since its inception, the centre has received around 22,600 families, out of which 56 per cent are UAE nationals and 44 per cent are expats and medical tourists.
The new centre will include a ground floor and a first floor that will be spread across 7,500 square metres and will contain 155 parking spots for visitors and employees.
It will include six specialised outpatient clinics and support services including three radiology rooms, consultation rooms, a modern pharmacy and a phlebotomy lab.
Humaid Al Qutami, director-general of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), said that in addition to providing health services the centre will contribute greatly to fertility related-research.
The DHA also has the Amal programme where eligible Emirati couples get free fertility treatment at the centre.  The step was taken by the government last year to boost the falling fertility rates.
For the expansion, the Emirates Islamic Bank will be contributing to the funding of the centre in line with the Year of Zayed initiative.
