His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, paid tribute to Kuwaiti actor Abdulhussain Abdulredha, who passed away earlier this month.
The late actor was buried today in Kuwait a funeral attended by a large number of people, including citizens and expatriates.
Taking to Twitter, Sheikh Mohammed said:
'Today, Kuwait and the people of GCC countries bid farewell to artiste Abdulhussein Abdulredha. We say goodbye to a source of laughter and happiness in the Gulf. Every GCC citizen had a 'beautiful time' with you. May Allah keep you happy in your final abode.'
The much loved Kuwaiti actor, playwright and comedian died at the age of 78 after a career spanning decades that made him a household name across the Gulf.
State news agency Kuna said Abdulredha, who had heart surgery in 2015, died of natural causes on Friday (August 11) in London where he had been in an intensive care unit for two days.
The seventh of 14 children, Abdulredha was born and raised in Kuwait and rose to stardom through his satirical television and theatre work, largely critical of Arab and global politics.
A LARGE FUNERAL FOR THE LEGEND
Throughout a career launched in the 1960s and which stretched to May 2017, he tackled issues including mass Arab emigration and the plight of stateless people in the region.
Abdulrida also penned, and sang, the tune "Mister Bush" in the early 1990s, dedicated to former US president George Bush after the Gulf War triggered by Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.
