Ahmed Amjad Ali has been appointed as Pakistan's consul general in Dubai. He will be taking charge in February, Khaleej Times has learnt. Ali will be replacing Syed Javed Hassan, who has already completed his term.

Ali previously served as consul general at the Pakistan Consulate General in Bradford, UK.

In an outgoing ceremony held in UK, he said that he had been given a "special assignment" in Dubai by the Pakistan government, where he will be overseeing the Pakistan exhibition at the World Expo 2020.

He said Pakistan will hold one of its biggest trade and commerce exhibitions during the expo. "I have been made in-charge of this and we are hoping to increase Pakistan's trade at this expo," he said.

More than 1.6 million Pakistani expatriates live in the UAE and they are a major source of foreign remittance, which increased to $4.3 billion during fiscal year 2017-18.
