Be warned: Most crimes in Dubai will be committed online

Dubai - The police said they needed to raise awareness in the community about ways residents can protect their privacy online.

Up to 95 per cent of the crimes in Dubai would be committed online in the next few years, a top police officer has predicted.  Brigadier Abdullah Abdul Rahman bin Sultan, director of the Dubai Police's Future Foresight Centre, also spoke about the dangers of online gaming and said children needed to be taught about the negative impact of playing them.
This came during a discussion hosted by the police about security challenges in the next 10 years. The police said they needed to raise awareness in the community about ways residents can protect their privacy online. They also plan for more cooperation between the police and telecommunication network providers to curb e-crimes, particularly those related to hacking and blackmail.
Batti Al Falasi, director of Security Awareness Department, unveiled a project that would use artificial intelligence in securing the emirate. The project links all the e-systems of the Dubai Police and scans through the data to determine the most vulnerable groups of residents. The police would then communicate with them to boost their security awareness.
