'Do you have any questions?' The oft repeated answer to this by interviewees is a resounding 'no' followed by an awkward silence and then the end of the interview.
But that's not the way it should be. It's important to ask some questions to know the work and the company better.

1.  What skills and experiences would an ideal candidate have?
This is a great question to find out exactly what the company is looking for. You can cross-reference it with your own skills and seal the deal that you are the ideal candidate.
2. What does a day's work look like?
This will give you an idea on the day to day of the company as well as their culture.
3. What have past employees done to succeed in this position?
It's a great opportunity to know more about the people who were in the position before and what they have done. You can use this information to gauge the company's expectations of you and if your skills are the right fit to excel in the position.
4. What new skills can I hope to learn here?
Nobody knows it all. And from the interviewer's point of view, asking this question shows that you are ready to learn and absorb new skills. On the other side of the coin this will make interviewers feel that you're humble and you have potential to grow.
5. What are some challenges that the candidate would face?
Cut yourself some slack and get to know what you're going to be facing after getting the job. This gives your mind time to think about solutions that could help fix any rough patches the company may currently have.
6. Can you tell me more about 'X' project?
One shouldn't come to an interview without ever going through a company's website. This question shows two things 1) You're familiar with what they do in the company and 2) find out more as to why this company is better than its competitors.
7. Where do you see the company going in the next 5 years?
If you see being in this company long term, then it would be great to know if they're going to grow so you can grow with them.
8. What comes next in the process?
This shows that you're eager and that you really want to be a part of their company. You might also get insider info on how many people are also running for the position.
9.  Do you have any hesitations with my qualifications?
Show your interviewer that you're confident in what you can do and contribute to them in this amazing and gutsy question.
10.What do you love about working here?
One of the hard-hitting questions you could ask. This appeals to your interviewer's opinions and basically gives you insider knowledge on what you could also come to love of the company. keith@khaleejtimes.com
