A 14-month-old baby boy was allegedly tortured to death in Dubai and his own mother is the prime suspect. The Arab mother is currently in police custody for interrogation by the public prosecution.
The boy was admitted at the Latifa Hospital after he suffered injuries in the right side of his head. He also had bruises in other parts of his body. The hospital notified the police about the case.
The police summoned the mother, who claimed her child suffered from seizures and the family was planning to take him to the US for treatment. She denied having killed her baby.
She said she found her baby motionless and tried to revive him by pressing on his stomach many times, after which she rushed him to the hospital.
Lt. Shaheen Al Mazmi, director of administrative affairs at the Dubai Police's human rights department, said medical reports haven't suggested any criminal act behind the death. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The forensic report will determine whether the mother is guilty.
According to police investigation, the boy was born prematurely. He was earlier taken to Rashid Hospital with seizures and high fever. A CT scan revealed he was suffering from internal bleeding. The hospital conducted an operation to remove the blood from his skull. He was discharged after two weeks. He was again brought in later, with some fractures and was discharged. He was recently taken to Latifa Hospital, which reported his bruises and assault on the head to the police.
