Dubai files first case under anti-hate law

Dubai - The Saudi national reportedly made offensive remarks against the UAE on his social media accounts.

A Saudi national will become the first man to be charged under the new anti-hate law issued by the UAE last week. The man reportedly made offensive remarks against the UAE on his social media accounts.
Lt.-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Police and General Security, recently tweeted that he filed the case against Mohammed Al Hudhaif for repeatedly insulting the UAE. Al Hudhaif published "baseless news and spread rumours about the UAE", said Lt-Gen Tamim.
He said the police are preparing a file on the case. Once the anti-hate law comes into effect in August, the police will move a petition to extradite the Saudi national to be prosecuted in a UAE court based on the mutual cooperation agreement between security bodies.
He said people can criticise within the framework of the law, but they should not insult others or spread hatred.
