An Indian expat who was on life support for the last 53 days will finally be able to fly home in an air ambulance on Thursday morning.
It was a normal day of March as Mustafa Kandathvallapil was working at a hypermarket in Khalidiyah Mall.
However, he collapsed following a brain hemorrhage and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. He was referred to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi for advanced care, where he spent more than seven weeks.
"This Wednesday is the 53rd day that my father is in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Doctors attending to him said his condition is improving. So, we requested doctors if we can shift him to our native place of Kerala.
"We are from Malappuram district and all my family members and relatives are based there. There will be more people to look after him back in Kerala. So, this was a natural decision to shift him to Kerala after weeks of care here. He will be transported in a special air ambulance," Mustafa's son Sabil Mustafa, who works at a private company in Dubai, said.
"I will be travelling with my father on Thursday morning," Sabil said.
The air ambulance will fly from Al Bateen Airport at 10am and is expected to arrive at Cochin International Airport by 3.05pm. Mustafa will then be shifted to Aster Medcity Hospital in Kochi.
Mustafa was working at the LuLu Hypermarket for the past 10 years and never had any medical issues, a spokesperson from the LuLu Group said.
